The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament kicked off this week on Raw and SmackDown, with a pair of exciting first-round bouts. Raw newcomers Dakota Kai and IYO SKY picked up the win over Dana Brooke and Tamina – with Bayley proudly cheering them on from ringside. Kai and SKY watch the winners of Nikki ASH and Doudrop over Alexa Bliss and Asuka, who they are currently set to face in a 6-woman tag team match at Clash at the Castle on September 3.
On the SmackDown side, Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah prevailed over Xia Li and Shotzi when Rodriguez bent Xia Li in half with a Tejana Bomb. Rodriguez loves this opportunity to team up with Aliyah.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better tag team partner,” Rodriguez said on SmackDown LowDown after their first-round victory. “Aliyah is just a ray of sunshine, and she brings out the best in me when we’re there. And I just can’t wait to see who our next opponents will be. I feel like we’re full of confidence at the moment, and I totally agree.
Aliyah dubbed the team “Boujee and the Beast”. This duo will be waiting for either veterans Natalya and Sonya Deville or NXT 2.0 newcomers Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark.
