WWE Announces Tag Team Championship Unification Match

Announced for this year’s WrestleMania: Backlash pay-per-view is yet another huge championship unification match, this time between the teams of RKBro and The Usos. This clash of Tag Titles has been bubbling since the week post-WrestleMania, where The Bloodline, led by now Unified World Champion Roman Reigns, said they were looking to unify more than singles titles in WWE.

Setting their sights on the team of Riddle and Randy Orton, The Usos made it clear they wanted the RAW Tag titles as well as the SmackDown Live belts. Therefore, a match has been set for Backlash, where the two headliners will compete to create a single Tag Championship.

The match took place after RKBro attended this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, taking on The Usos and making the match official for the upcoming pay-per-view.

Despite the ongoing brand split, this is probably the smartest move for WWE to make to cut down on the Tag Division’s chaff. By unifying the belts, the championships, as well as the champions, feel much more important and turn them into a bigger attraction. Both teams are extremely popular and an argument could be made for The Usos or RKBro to hold a unified tag championship.

WrestleMania: Backlash will take place on Sunday, May 8.
