World RX’s all-electric assist series will become a team championship with private owners



FIA RX2e expands to five races with more powerful cars and greater technological flexibility.


The RX2e Championship, the all-electric support series of the World Rallycross Championship (World RX), is set to introduce a number of changes for its 2023 season.

The joint venture is between Spanish electromobility specialist QEV Technologies and Swedish rallycross powerhouse Olsbergs MSE, the former having acted as operator of all cars in the series.

From 2023, RX2e will become a team championship, with private teams able to buy or lease cars and adapt bodywork, with QEV remaining a sole supplier.

Performance will also increase from 250 kW to 270 kW, with a boost up to 350 kW. Greater technical freedoms are also under discussion, with competitors enjoying ten percent more track time on race weekends.

The series will award a European title from next season, with the 2023 campaign set to feature five races. All World RX two-car competitors will receive free entry to the RX2e, with the eventual champion of the supporting series being granted free entry to the following season of World RX.

“Having successfully proven its enormous potential over the past two seasons through a combination of fantastic racing, a competitive and reliable technical package and one of the best cost-performance ratios in the sport, it is now time to ‘open RX2e to private teams, many of whom have already expressed a strong interest in participating,’ said Wlodek Szaniawski, chairman of the off-road commission of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

“We also believe it is important to strengthen the bond between RX2e and World RX, with whom the series shares both the paddock and the spotlight.
