The original story (as of February 1, 2019) follows:
After Apple disabled the Group Facetime feature earlier this week due to a nasty bug, we’re seeing reports from Apple users saying the App Store (or show Apple ID) isn’t working for them. Few say they can’t even log into the company’s app marketplace. Here are some reports:
@AppleSupport I can’t connect to my App Store. I logged in and out. My data is good. Is there something wrong with the server? How can this problem be solved?
— draventheokay (@draventheokay) February 1, 2019
The frequency of reports is currently low, so it does not appear that all Apple device users are affected. But it could also be that the problem is spreading slowly.
Anyway, we couldn’t find any official word from Apple on this, but we’ll surely update this story as we find other newsworthy information related to this matter. .
Until then, let us know your experience on the App Store in the comments section below.
It seems that devices with specific iOS versions are facing this issue:
Tested 2 devices on 11.1.2 AppStore is down. Tested 8.3, 9.3.3, 10.2, 11.3, 12.1 and all good. So bizzare.
—JunesiPhone (@JunesIphone) February 1, 2019
Did Apple do this to trick people into updating to iOS 12? Less likely, but there are reports:
oh and now the app store doesn’t work on my iphone? apparently this happens to alot of people on ios11 but i am NOT upgrading to 12 while this connection bug is still there so.
could this be fixed as soon as possible.

Some Apple Music and iTunes users are also reporting issues:
@AppleSupport My Apple Music, App Store and iTunes are not working. When I go to one of them it says it cannot connect to the server.

Someone posted this workaround on Reddit:
I was able to connect (but not do much else) by setting my date to 29. Please give it a try and report what works!

Telegram indicates an update problem at Apple
Telegram users have been reporting a weird issue for a few hours now. They say that even after updating to the latest app store version 5.3, the app is not updating.
@telegram have you seen your new app update version 5.3 not working? Tried on 2 devices: it updates, refreshes and shows the same update available. But the real app update is not happening. Fix it! Watch my video! #telegram #iosappfailures pic.twitter.com/2W4DwLIRfR

What’s nice is that there’s official word on this, with the company saying it’s an issue on Apple’s side.
This seems to be an issue on Apple’s side. Getting the same here, the app store is giving you the wrong version for some reason. Will probably be fixed soon, there is probably some delay in the rollout.
– Telegram messenger (@telegram) January 31, 2019
Meanwhile, users say that some other apps like Skype also exhibit similar behavior.
Note that unlike the connectivity issue, this update-related issue does not appear to be specific to iOS 11.
Anyone else have this problem? App Store keeps showing update available after updating apps in iOS 12.1.3 from iOS
Will update this story as we have more information to share about it.
Another app developer says the problem with updates is on Apple’s side:
Hi! This appears to be an app store issue. We are monitoring its progress closely and will post updates as soon as there is progress.
— Neybox (@neyboxhq) February 1, 2019
Here’s a security researcher summarizing all of these lingering issues with the App Store:
It looks like Apple has an AppStore/iTunes outage (unable to download apps) for specific iOS versions 11.0 – 11.1.2 currently unreported in their System Status. Confirmed reports from 4 other people around the world.

Telegram CEO Durov has confirmed the problems with Apple’s App Store. Here is what he said in his latest post about a new Telegram update:
It looks like iOS users have to wait a while to get the update as the App Store has been having issues since yesterday. I expect Apple to fix its issues in the next few hours as Cupertino wakes up
Connectivity and update issues should be resolved now.
