Mixed doubles pair Kasirye and Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi started it all with a 21-11, 21-15 victory over Aatish Mubah and Kobita Doohee.

Uganda then took a 2-0 lead after Glady Mbabazi defeated Ganesha Munrah 21-15, 21-11 in the women’s singles. But Africa’s top men’s singles player George Julien Paul brought some hope to Mauritius after stopping Isreal Wanagalya 21-10, 21-7.

Women’s doubles pair Husina Kobugabe and Glady Mbabazi helped Uganda advance to the semi-finals after humiliating Vilina Appaih and Kobita Dookhee’s pair 21-15, 21-15.

Uganda will now face 2020 mixed team champions Egypt in the semi-finals later this afternoon. Uganda will seek revenge after Egypt stopped Uganda 3-2 in the group stage on Friday.

Uganda head coach William Kabindi told Xinhua that the team will have to play much more carefully in the next stage. I am happy that we have defeated one of the best badminton nations in Mauritius, ”added Kabindi.

The second semi-final will see South Africa take on Algeria. The final will be played on Sunday.

The Championship organized by the Confederation of African Badminton (BCA) which started on Thursday will culminate on October 28 with the finals of the individual events.
