The teams we could see in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament

WWE recently announced that the tournament for the vacant Women’s Tag Team Championships will finally begin on Monday Night RAW. With few to no teams in the division currently, it has made fans curious as to what Triple H might have up his sleeve…

It is clear that the division needs new blood and new storylines. But with the potential return of Sasha Banks and Naomi and the lack of active squads, check out the potential duos that could form in time or be called up to complete the picture.

IO SKY and Dakota Kai

Daktota Kai and IYO SKY made their main roster debut, alongside a returning Bayley at SummerSlam. The trio faced RAW Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch. Kai and SKY are arguably the favorites to win the Women’s Tag Team Championships, especially with how strong their new faction with Bayley has been showcased so far.

Dakota is no stranger to tag team gold, winning the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Women’s Tag Team Classic (with Raquel Rodriguez) in 2021. The two regained the belts in 2022, becoming the first two-time champions. As for IYO, she is a former NXT Women’s Champion and Tag Team Champion (along with Zoey Stark) and had stood out in NXT prior to their 2.0 facelift.

Doudrop & Nikki ASH

Ideally, we would see Nikki reunite with Alexa and have a story between the two where good or evil outweighs their two characters. But, we usually don’t get what we want… That being said, this was an originally announced team for the tag team tournament, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they were there again.

Nikki ASH and Doudrop have the potential to be a great tag team, but right now it feels forced. If they lose in the first round, a reconditioning for both women is in order. But their team could be great because there is a history between the two…

toxic attraction

With Toxic Attraction unable to retain their NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships, it looks like a call to the main roster is on the horizon. Hopefully they get called as a faction, but in case they don’t… The Women’s Tag Team Division is in serious need of real teams.

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne have certainly proven themselves in the division as two of the best heels in NXT. They also had two long and successful reigns. Both women are ready for the spotlight, and with SmackDown needing heel teams, the weather has never been better.

Alexa Bliss and Asuka

After their singles match on RAW last week after SummerSlam, the team of Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY attacked Asuka and Alexa Bliss in a continued show of power from returning NXT stars. Summoning the spirit of Teddy Long, it’s entirely possible that WWE will team up with the Empress of Tomorrow with Little Miss Bliss, resulting in what could be a fun match between the two teams.

Teaming up with Asuka could be the new life needed for the character of Alexa Bliss and usher in this new era of her career. Asuka elevates everyone she shares a ring with and getting her back to tag team gold would be a great addition to her WWE resume.

Natalya and Tamina

I hope there aren’t a bunch of random teams formed for the tournament. In the idea that duos will regroup, former champions Natalia and Tamina should be at the top of the list. Both women are talented veterans, second-generation wrestlers, and couldn’t do enough with the belts when they had them.

They could realistically get a second run or help catapult a new tag team into the title picture. Either way, we hope to see the two women team up in the near future as the division needs more talent and storylines. But if we’re being honest, Shayna might regroup with Natalya before that happens…

Kayden Carter and Katana Luck

They may have won the titles recently, but what better way to showcase the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions than to have them enter the tournament for the main roster belts? Kayden Carter & katana luck worked hard as a duo for a while, and it finally paid off.

Their high-flying skills and frequent double-teaming make them a fixture in the division… And more importantly, great fun to watch. Given that the main roster has virtually no women’s teams, it’s possible we’ll see these two for a short stint on Monday Night RAW as the split rebuilds.

Candice LeRae and Indie Hartwell

This repair depends on Candice LeRae return to WWE after giving birth. If she did, half of The Way could really make a splash on the main roster. Since Theory was called up, Dexter Lumis came out and Candice and Johnny Gargano left WWE, Indie Hartwell seems to have wandered off into NXT’s women’s deep division.

With RAW in Ohio next week and Ciampa battling for the United States Championship, could we see the return of Johnny & Candice? We sure hope so… Candice and Indie are exactly what the division is missing right now, and a main roster for LeRae is way overdue.

Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler

Since Ronda Rousey is still feuding with Liv Morgan, this pairing is highly unlikely. But let’s be honest…that would be BADASS. If WWE hasn’t already thought of Rousey potentially holding the tag belts one day, they should be. Especially with the long, real and close friendship she had with Shayna Baszler.

Women like heels would be a must-see on TV, and the repackaging both women need right now. There’s no better time than now to do it, so let’s hope we see it in the near future since we’ve never had the Four Horsewomen feud on the main roster.

Carmella and Queen Zelina

Even though the last time they were on TV together, they had a fight… With Queen Zelina come back soon, and carmel recently saying she wanted the vacant belts but needed a partner, it looks like these two could get together sooner than expected. WWE might as well bring in another pair of former champions to add legitimacy to the tournament.

They had a good run while they were champions, and if Sasha Banks and Naomi return soon, they’ll need a team of heels to feud and take the belts. I wouldn’t be surprised if the mean girls got together for another shot at WWE gold around their waists.

A random couple, or… Sasha & Naomi?

The wildcard and “surprise” return the wrestling world is all hoping for is the return of The Boss & Glow Connection. It would be one of the most talked about times of the year… If it happens of course. In May, Noemie and Sasha Banks placed the women’s tag team belts on the then talent relations manager’s desk and reportedly left WWE. This was largely due to lack of planning and attention to titles and the women’s division as a whole.

With the new era of WWE leadership, we might just see their return. Personally, we’d like to see a winner crowned in the tournament and have Naomi and Sasha go against them, setting up an epic match to crown the TRUE Women’s Tag Team Champions. That being said, a random pairing could join the tournament as a filler team, so don’t be surprised if that happens instead…

With all the changes going on internally at WWE, fans can definitely expect a fun ride with this tournament. One thing is for sure, the storyline for the women’s division is good not only for women’s wrestling, but for pro wrestling as a whole.
