Teams Announced for 2022 LIV Golf Team Championship in Miami

West Palm Beach: LIV Golf has announced that the 12-team, 48-player course is set to begin its eighth and final event of the year.

The 2022 LIV Golf Team Championship will take place October 28-30 at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami.

Blue Monster’s signature course will host the three-day knockout tournament, featuring both match play and stroke play, providing the excitement of head-to-head competition as teams compete to a historic purse of $50 million.

The strong field will include four former world No. 1s, seven top-ranked players within their country, 12 major champions with a total of 22 major tournaments won, 13 Olympians and 14 different countries represented.

The top 36 players in the individual LIV Golf Invitational Series rankings (minimum of four events played) qualify for the Team Championship, with league commitments and captain’s selections making up the rest of the field.

LIV Golf Managing Director and Commissioner Greg Norman said, “LIV Golf has revived the sport in record time during our beta testing season.

“Players are celebrating the team format that brings a new energy and audience to golf that the game deserves.

“It’s only fitting that we salute this historic year with a spectacular and innovative team championship that will propel us into a team-oriented league from 2023.”

For the LIV Golf Invitational Series Team Rankings, points were awarded to teams based on their result in each tournament, with values ranging from 32 points (first place) to zero (ninth through 12th).

After the seventh and final event of the regular season, the team standings determined seeds 1 through 12 for the tag team championship. All four seeded Aces GC (152 points), second seeded Crushers GC (96), third seeded Fireballs GC (93) and fourth seeded Stinger GC (72) earned a bye and automatically qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals.

The remaining top-ranked teams, starting with fifth-seeded Smash GC, led by captain and four-time major winner Brooks Koepka, will select their opponents for Friday’s quarter-finals. Those selections will be announced Oct. 26 at a live press conference in Doral featuring the team captains for seeds 5-12.

That morning, players will know their opponents for Friday’s singles matches and foursome matches. Captains will be pitted against each other and all 32 players will compete simultaneously in a shotgun start.

After Friday’s competition, the captains of the four seeds and the captains of the four quarter-final winners will meet and select their opponents for Saturday’s semi-final, with the top-seeded teams selecting their opponents.

On Sunday, the 16 players from the four semi-final winners will face off in a round of shotgun-start stroke play. Players will compete in duos, team captains will play together, and all scores will count towards a team’s cumulative score.

At the end of Sunday’s round, the team with the lowest score is the LIV Golf Invitational Series Tag Team Champion.
