Team USA wins first Pan American Junior Diving Team Championship since 2011

Sunday October 10 marked the last day of competition at the UANA Pan American Junior Diving Championships, where 7 American divers won medals.

The competition began with simultaneous D 1m events for boys and D platform events for girls. For the men’s D 1 meter, Ian Nava Gutierrez (MEX) was named Champion with a score of 239.95. The silver medal went to Delaney Hsu (USA) with a total score of 222.70, and his compatriot Cristiano Garcia won the bronze medal with a score of 217.70. After the boys ‘event, we saw three medalists for the girls’ D platform event. Abigail Gonzalez Roel (MEX) placed 1st on the platform with a total score of 239.80. 2nd place went to ElliReese Niday (USA) with a total score of 218.75, and 3rd place went to Jennifer Lozano (MEX) with a total score of 213.90.

The final day of the UANA Pan American Junior Diving Championships saw more concurrent events take place, this time for the C 3m for the girls and the C 1m for the boys. Regarding the women’s 3-meter C event, Ruth Elisa Páez (MEX) was crowned Champion with a total score of 314.00. A silver medal was awarded to Juliet Radich (USA) with a total score of 287.55, and a bronze medal to Lila Stewart (CAN) with a total score of 278.25. The last morning session ended with the boys’ C 1 meter, where Gabriel Vázquez Cio (MEX) was named Champion with a total score of 357.85. The silver medal went to Dean Dacoulis-Calfacacos (CAN) with a total score of 331.60, and the last C medal in the boys went to Luc Goertzen (CAN) with a total score of 330.35.

UANA Pan American Junior Diving Championships 2021 The Sunday afternoon competitions started with the men’s 3-meter B competition. Tomas Tamayo Meneses (COL) won the gold medal of the event with a total score of 444.65. The silver medal went to Joshua Hedberg (USA) with a total score of 432.05, and the bronze medal went to Alejandro Flores Jimenez (MEX) with a total score of 418.50. The individual competition for the UANA Pan American Junior Diving Championships concluded with the boys’ platform A event. Matt Cullen (CAN) was named Champion with a total score of 528.00. The silver medal was won by Benjamin Tessier (USA) with a total score of 495.35, and the bronze medal went to his compatriot Maxwell Weinrich with a total score of 469.20.

The final competition of the four-day competition saw the women’s 3-meter synchronized A / B win medals. Sonya Palkhivala (CAN) / Julianne Boisvert (CAN) received a gold medal with a final score of 250.23. Tiffany Brawn Lozada (COL) / Mariana Osorio (COL) won a silver medal with a score of 232.05, and the bronze medal was awarded to Natalia Bedolla (MEX) / Jecza López López (MEX) with a total score of 222.72.

At the end of the competition, global point rewards were given to the best diver in each age group as well as to the best overall team.

Daryn Wright (USA) and Max Weinrich (USA) won Group A awards, Ana Ricci (PER) and Tomas Tamayo Meneses (COL) won Group B, Lila Stewart (CAN) and Gabriel Vazquez Cio (MEX) won won Group C, Mexican sisters Mia Cueva Lobato and Lia Cueva Lobato are tied for the Girls D title while teammate Ian Nava Gutierrez wins the Boys title.

The United States team won the tag team championship for the first time since 2011, scoring more than 100 points over second-placed Mexico.
