Of NJPW:

STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships – Yuya Uemura & Christopher Daniels vs. Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher)

The STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship final sees Christopher Daniels and Yuya Uemura take on the Aussie Open. While Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher were circled as pre-tournament favorites and lived up to that status with towering victories over Dark Order and Stray Dog Army, their opposition tonight couldn’t be more different.

“The story you never thought you’d see” is how Christopher Daniels described his journey with Yuya Uemura to the final. Uemura joined Daniels off the cuff, not even the Fallen Angels’ originally intended partner after taking Karl Fredericks’ place. After a win over The Factory in the first round, few, if any, gave the two a chance against the former established GHC Champion team of Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls. Still, a bloodied and beaten Uemura would land a Frankensteiner who punched a ticket for him and Daniels in Charlotte. Uemura is fueled by the dream of his first career championship, while Daniels seeks more gold in the fall of a long and decorated career. Still, the Aussie Open is on its own path to dominance in every company it lands in, as well as the United Empire trophy showcase. Who leaves Charlotte the very first STRONG tag champion?

Big Damo vs. Hikuleo

The G1 Climax is nearing its conclusion, and with it the super-heavy monster A Block. Still, there are also plenty of “super heavyweight bests” to enjoy on STRONG, and Big Damo and Hikuleo have their own battle tonight to be a dominant giant on STRONG. At Music City Mayhem in Nashville, Damo would challenge Fred Rosser in Rosser’s first defense of the STRONG Openweight Championship. The challenge drew the ire of Hikuleo, a longtime enemy of Rosser, who felt that Damo had done nothing to earn his spot. After Damo’s loss to Rosser via Emerald Flowsion, Hikuleo will fight to show the world, and Rosser, that he is a more worthy challenger (and potentially the next one).

Shane Haste vs. Jorel Nelson

The evening’s matches will begin with a singles match between two experts per tag team. Prior to the start of the STRONG Openweight Tag Tournament, many pundits had the West Coast Wrecking Crew and TMDK circled as heavy favorites; when the two teams met in the first round, only one pair could advance, and that was Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls. Immediately after that fight, Royce Isaacs would travel to Japan to be alongside Tom Lawlor via G1 Climax 32, but Nelson felt there was some outstanding business, issuing a singles challenge to Haste. This fight kicks things off tonight and could have big consequences for the men and their partners.

NJPW STRONG airs at 8 p.m. ET on NJPW World. Fightful will have results from the show after its conclusion. Fans can find results for previous episodes of NJPW STRONG in Fightful’s results section.
