What is available on RTÉ Radio Player?
The RTÉ Radio Player app allows you to live stream and listen to all broadcasts from RTÉ Radio stations, as well as a wide range of original podcasts.
The listening program shows you a week’s worth of radio. The amount of clips and podcasts available at any given time varies by show, but you can always search the full archive of content available at rte.ie/radio.
On rare occasions, rights restrictions may limit our ability to make content available on demand.
How do I change stations?
Tap the menu icon in the top left corner of the app to display the menu. The radio selector is at the bottom of the menu.
You can also scroll down to a row of “Live Radio & Podcasts” to make your selection.
How can I see what has been broadcast on the radio? Is there a listening schedule available?
Select a radio station and click on the “Listen” menu item and you will see a calendar view which shows all the shows from the last 7 days as well as the list of shows that are due to air in the next 7 days. A small play icon indicates on-demand availability.

How can I view clips and individual elements of a radio show on RTÉ Radio Player?
To view individual clips, click the menu and click “Clips & Podcasts” and select a show.

How to access podcasts on the application on RTÉ Radio Player?
You’ll find a row of original and featured podcasts on each radio station’s page, or in the ‘Live Radio & Podcasts’ row, you can click on the last item in the list – ‘RTÉ Podcasts’.
Can I download content for offline listening?
Yes. Go to any podcast/series listing and tap the three dots to the right of any episode listing to reveal a “download” option.
How do I enable/disable autoplay?
Autoplay is disabled by default. You can choose to enable it so that when you launch the app it will start playing your last listened station. To do this, open the menu and click on the Settings icon (cog) at the top right next to the name of the station
Click “Autoplay on Startup” to enable or disable.
Can I turn off location tracking on the app?
This is done through your device settings.
If you are on an Apple device (iPhone/iPad) – you will need to go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Find RTÉ Radio Player and change your preferences there.
If you are on an Android device, you need to go to Settings > Location > Location app access > find RTÉ Radio Player and change your preferences there.
Can I listen to live radio in the background while watching other apps?
Yes, you can do this by quitting the app while listening to the radio. This will allow the app and radio stream to run in the background.
Note – if you click on a video or run another audio service while doing this, the radio stream will stop and need to be restarted in the app.
Can I change the store I buy music links from? (iOS only)
This is done through your iOS device settings and not in the app.
Can I stream content to my Google/Nest device with this app?
Broadcast is not yet available in the app. If you want to listen to RTÉ stations on your Google/Nest device, you can try the following:
“Hey Google, play RTÉ Radio 1” and it will play the station via TuneIn
How to remove/change Siri prompt? (iOS only)
Open the station for which you want to modify the prompt. Open the menu in the upper left corner.
There should be a message near the bottom of the screen that says “Added (changed) to Siri”. Click on it and you can edit or delete the order.
Can I use Airplay? (iOS only)
Airplay functionality is currently only accessible from the iPhone/iPad lock screen.
How can I check and see which song was last played?
Scroll down a radio station’s page to the line labeled “Recently Played” to view the most recently played songs.
You can view the full playlist archive by visiting the specific show page at rte.ie/radio/shows/ and finding the Today’s Episode page.
Can I rewind/restart live radio broadcasts? ?
It is currently not possible to rewind or restart a live broadcast.
What is the press conference?
You can listen to the latest headlines from the RTÉ News team with the ‘Latest News’ feature. Scroll down the Radio 1 page to access it. This bulletin is also available on Alexa voice devices.

Can I set a reminder for a program?
Currently this is not possible.
The app is not working for me. What other ways can I listen to RTÉ Radio services?

What do I need to access the latest version of the app?
– iOS (RTÉ radio player): At least iOS 12
– Android (RTÉ radio player): Minimum of Android 6.0
Why does the app not work on my mobile phone/tablet?
Several factors can cause the problem. Here are some steps we recommend that should get you up and running again.
Do you have the latest version of the app? By deleting and reinstalling the app from the App Store, you can be sure that you have the latest version.
Is your device’s operating system up to date? We need at least Android version 5 and iOS 11 for the app to download and run on your device. Anything older than that may be able to install the app, but it’s not supported.
Do you use a VPN? Please disable this option. With rare exceptions, all RTÉ Radio streams are available to stream and listen on demand from anywhere in the world.
If you are able to do so, try switching internet sources – for example: from home Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa. Please note that some WiFi sources in public transport or in certain institutions such as hospitals, offices, schools/colleges may have a firewall in place which may block radio player app traffic.

Playback stops/starts/buffers on my device
Buffering can be caused by a number of different factors. The most common factor being a weak internet connection.
To listen to a program without interruption, you will need a stable internet connection. There are a few things to try to make sure your connection is stable:
Do you share the internet with other people or use the internet on other devices? It’s possible they’re downloading something or one of your devices is using a lot of bandwidth. This in turn can weaken your connection which can cause the radio to stutter and buffer. Try pausing a download or turning off devices.
If you are connecting via WiFi, make sure your router is in view and not blocked behind walls or other objects. Alternatively, you can see how to change your broadband’s broadcast frequency – you’ll need to contact your internet service provider for the best way to do this.
Check your download speed. Generally, the higher your download speed, the better the quality of the stream. We recommend having at least 2MB to ensure a smooth streaming experience.
