Rochester graduates make money for the app they invented


Last week, teams of teens from across the country pitched their ideas on how to change the world to T-Mobile executives in Bellevue, Wash. And a group from Rochester won for the app they invented. !

The event, known as the Changemaker Challenge Lab, is designed to “engage youth ages 13-18 who have bold ideas to create positive change in their communities.”

Rochester Grads Earn Seed Money in T-Mobile’s Changemaker Challenge:

The students, Anjali Donthi (pictured above), Sarah Bulur, and Caitlin McWilliams, are all Century High graduates and freshmen at the university. The group received $ 15,000 in seed capital from T-Mobile’s Changemaker Challenge for the app they created.

    Operation Serenity (Rochester, MN): An app that gives pediatric patients preparing for surgery peace of mind with child-friendly simulations
  • Environment
    Aquapods (San Jose, CA): a 100% vegetable and biodegradable sponge that fights water waste and makes the soil more fertile
  • Education
    Medicine Encompassed (North Brunswick, NJ): A student-run nonprofit that works to address the issue of under-representation in medicine
  • Family challenge
    Terracan (Bellevue, WA): a smart trash can and app that calculates your waste footprint to help reduce waste

We were all incredibly inspired by the arguments we heard at the Changemaker Challenge Lab. I know their future is bright and I can’t wait to see what all of these teams will accomplish in the years to come!
