NJPW Announces Strong Tag Team Championship Tournament Support – AEW’s Dark Order To Enter The Field

We may be on the road to Forbidden Door, but NJPW isn’t entirely focused on the upcoming PPV crossover with AEW. They are also pushing for the NJPW Strong Tag Team Division to finally have a prize to claim. The Strong Tag Team Championships were announced, featuring an eight-team tournament to crown the champions. We now have all eight teams in the mix.

Eight teams enter the mix – only one will be crowned champion

Starting from the top left corner, we have the team of Christopher Daniels and Karl Fredericks taking on AEW’s The Factory – presumably QT Marshall and Aaron Solow. Fredericks & Daniels are the easy favorites here, with Daniels as the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

On the bottom left of the bracket, The Mighty Don’t Kneel take on West Coast Wrecking Crew. Many felt this was the potential final game, but one of those top teams will be knocked out in the first round.

On the top right of the bracket, Stray Dog Army will take on Eddie Pearl and Ricky Gibson, otherwise known as Midnight Heat. Stray Dog Army is probably Bateman & Misterioso, thinking Barrett Brown is part of that faction as well.

The bottom right of the bracket will see AEW’s Dark Order making its NJPW debut – which is expected to be Evil Uno and Preston Vance. They will face the Aussie Open, who rose to prominence on AEW Dynamite alongside Will Ospreay. Dark Order’s victory would likely be the surprise here.

The tournament starts tomorrow and ends in July

Round 1 matches will take place tomorrow (June 19) at the Ignition tapings, with the semi-finals and finals taking place at High Alert on July 24. This tournament will be subject to spoilers, with NJPW Strong typically recording four hour-long episodes, airing on Saturday nights.

With the Aussie Open and TMDK on either side of the table, this seems like the best final game possible, as they are the best known and most experienced teams in the mix. Who do you want to see as Strong Tag Team Champions? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
