The senior and varsity badminton teams from Mackenzie Community School in Deep River earned the school the Upper Ottawa Valley Trophy for top team at the UOVHSAA Championship held at Fellowes High School on April 22.

In the Open EOSSA Qualifier final, Brian Kong of Fellowes defeated Oliver Walker of Mackenzie Community School.

In the women’s singles division of the competitive EOSSA High School Qualifier, Heidi Hugli of Fellowes triumphed over Jenna Drefke of Opeongo High School.

The Boys’ Singles Division of the EOSSA Secondary School Qualifying Competition saw Jevyn Davidson of Opeongo claim victory over Vincent Landry of French Catholic Secondary School Jeanne-Lajoie.

The team of Ava Chen and Diana Xue of Mackenzie won the competitive EOSSA Qualifier of the Girls’ High School Doubles Division against Ava Zadow and Keysha TwoAxe of Opeongo.

In the competitive EOSSA High School Qualifying Boys Doubles division, Mackenzie’s duo of Derek Wong and Kurt Zou defeated Mackenzie’s Baraa Ben Letaifa and Ezra Klukas.

The EOSSA Mixed Doubles Qualifier in the High Schools Competitive Division was won by the team of Noah Matthews and Izzy Dick of Renfrew Collegiate Institute against Azalea Cutas and Stan Yelisyeyev of Valor JK-12 School in Petawawa.

A total of 18 Renfrew County students earned spots to represent UOVHSAA at the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (EOSSAA) badminton championships in Brockville.

At the EOSSAA Championships held in Brockville on April 26, Kong qualified for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Championships taking place in early May.
