LIV Golf’s $50 million season-ending tag team championship will continue to rock the golfing world as the rebel series combines knockout match play and stroke play for its dramatic finale.

Taking place at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami this week (October 28-30), the field will once again feature 48 players across 12 teams as the inaugural season of the Saudi-backed series draws to a close.

But instead of the 54-hole strokeplay event we’ve seen in the previous seven LIV Golf Invitational events, the Team Championship will see the iconic Blue Monster course host a three-day knockout competition, with matches at four and singles the first two days. before returning to strokeplay for the final round.

The first two days of match play will be used to narrow things down with just four teams in action on Sunday, when the format returns to strokeplay with a shotgun start. The scores of all four players on each team will count towards the final total, with the lowest ranked team crowned the LIV Golf Invitational Series Team Champion.

The top four seeded teams will not take part in the opening day quarter-finals after being bye due to their performances throughout the season. This means 4Aces GC (Dustin Johnson, Talor Gooch, Patrick Reed, Pat Perez), Crushers GC (Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri), Fireballs GC (Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Carlos Ortiz, Eugenio Lopez- Chacarra) and Stingers GC (Louis Oosthuzen, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, Shaun Norris) will join the event for Saturday’s semi-finals.

LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has been fighting for the series to receive world ranking points since its launch.

“This year has been a transformational year for golf and we are just starting to warm up,” said LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman.

“The Invitational Series Finale, played at the fan-favorite Blue Monster in Doral, fits our revolutionary model that delivers an innovative, one-of-a-kind experience for players and fans alike. I can’t wait to see the teams go head-to-head in what will be a historic and monumental event.

The Trump National Doral Golf Club is an ideal venue for the final having hosted three of Norman’s 20 PGA Tour victories. The Aussie also broke the course record in 1990, shooting a 10-under par 62 in the final round of the Doral-Ryder Open, coming off seven drift shots and securing a shoot-off with Paul Azinger, Mark Calcavecchia and Tim Simpson. Norman then competed in the eagle to lift the trophy.

Blue Monster was revamped by Gil Hanse in 2014 and expects to welcome Dustin Johnson’s GC 4 Aces as the top seed for the LIV Finals.
