Hamfest radio ham set for Saturday in Carlinville

Mike Mayberry of the Jacksonville Amateur Radio Society uses Morse code to communicate with other amateur radio operators around the world. The West Central Illinois Hamfest will take place from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds in Carlinville.

CARLINVILLE – The West Central Illinois Hamfest will take place from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds.

The Amateur Radio Family Event will feature displays; reviews by ARRL: National Association of Radio Amateurs; and a swap meet run by the Sangamon Valley Radio Flyer’s Club.

Ken Norris (KK9N) will lead an “End Feed Half Wave Antennas” forum at 8 a.m. Craig Tompson (K9CT) will lead a tour of K9CT Super Station at 9 a.m. and the Sangamon Valley RC Flyers Club will lead a forum. An ARRL roundup by Thom Beebe (W9RY) will take place at 11 a.m.

Breakfast and lunch will also be available.

Admission is $5. Tailgating is $10 including admission. Indoor flea market tables are $15 including admission.

The fairgrounds are located at 21149 Illinois Route 4.
