Group of radio amateurs search for possible funnel formations on Lake Michigan


More than 100 youth ages 12 to 16 have taken a weeklong hunter safety course that takes place each evening this week at Kennedy Elementary School. The 10-hour course has various instructions on safety, courtesy and other related topics and is required before novice hunters can apply for their first hunting license.

The voters

National Voters ‘League week runs September 20-26 and was celebrated last night by the Manistee County Voters’ League with a potluck and evening presentation. Becky Fay chaired the meeting which consisted of presentations by the committee heads.


Tornado alert

The Manistee area was included in the tornado alert which was in effect from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. yesterday. local communication system.


Murals unveiled

Three murals painted by members of the local art project of the National Youth Administration will be unveiled tomorrow morning at 10:20 a.m. at a special assembly in the high school auditorium. The murals will be placed on the west wall of the auditorium.

Fall is here

Temperatures closer to the seasons than those prevailing here on Sunday and Monday welcomed the official first day of fall today. The sweltering heat from the weekend and yesterday was gone this morning and although the mercury rose in the late morning and early afternoon, a hint of a drop was in the air and the forecast was to continued cool weather tonight and tomorrow.
