If you can’t beat them, join them. After joining his father for years in ridiculing “lamestream media” as “the enemy of the people”, Donald Trump Jr has launched an app to aggregate news.
Don Jr and co-founder Taylor Budowich, a spokesman for the former president, hope MxM News (the name refers to “minute by minute”) will compete with giants like Apple News and Google News, the site reported. Axios.
They claim that a team of about eight people will curate stories from across the ideological spectrum (“mainstream information without mainstream bias”). But whether that will include fact checks on Donald Trump’s “big lie” remains to be seen.
The ex-president and his son, who frequently join him at campaign rallies, have long denounced “fake news” and spoken of the need to challenge big tech companies.
Axios quoted Don Jr as saying, “When I travel across the country, the complaint I hear more than almost anything else is that people don’t know what media outlets, reporters, or stories they can actually trust.
“We created the MxM News app to help people get by and get reliable news and information on matters that matter and impact their lives. We consider it an important public service and also believe it will be a great business.”
The application will start as free before looking for ways to earn money. Its creators do not currently plan to recruit their own reporters or produce original content.
Telegraph Creative, a financial partner of the company, designed and developed the mobile app. Its managing director is Cliff Sims, a former aide to Trump’s White House aide and deputy director of national intelligence.
A preview on the Apple App Store reads, “MxM News offers curated news that cuts through censorship, mainstream biases and institutional domination that have left society divided and uninformed.
“The platform gives readers access to the news that matters, especially when it’s overlooked. Updated minute-by-minute with news coverage from a diversity of publications and topics, readers have a one-stop-shop to get and stay informed.
The preview shows sample stories: “[Kevin] McCarthy’s plot to build the Trump House”; “Aaron Rogers talks Covid vax drama, alleges ‘censorship’ if opinions don’t follow mainstream”; “Chinese Investment in US Aircraft Maker Draws FBI, National Security Reviews”.
Don Jr may be hoping MxM News will make more waves than his dad’s social media app. Trump himself hasn’t posted on Truth Social since its awkward launch a month ago.
