Dating apps can be tricky to navigate with so many options and settings to find the perfect match, but one woman’s epic app failure had a heartwarming outcome.
Jessica Walker was initially baffled that she had no matches, only to find her profile was only shown to gay men.
The Florida woman downloaded the popular dating app Hinge in hopes of finding the perfect guy, but she was annoyed at being ignored by everyone and the guys she was shown were interested in “pretty boys in the countryside”.
“I was newly single and didn’t know how to use Hinge, I was so confused. I wasn’t getting any likes, it made me wonder who I was as a woman,” she said, according to shimmer. “I just liked the profiles of the guys because they were all really cute.”
It was then that Taylor McManus reached out to Walker to let her know that her profile was only shown to men who enjoy the company of other men.
“Then when Taylor told me I would put my settings on gay men, it made sense. Every profile said ‘looking for a cute country boy,’ and I was like ‘why is this what does he say that? a boy too! ‘” she continued, adding that she had finally corrected the mistake.
“I don’t know how it happened, but later that day I got to see straight men, so I don’t know how it happened,” she said. “It’s so funny.”
However, the dating app mishap made him realize that straight men need to step up their game when writing their profiles.
“During the day I met gay men, I realized that I liked their dating profiles. They are much more honest than straight men, and I love that. Straight men will say, ‘I’m looking for the ‘love of my life’, when they search for Netflix and relax,” she explained. “Each gay profile seemed very honest…about what they wanted.”
Walker was grateful that McManus reached out to help guide her and noted that the two have since become best friends.
“Maybe I was just meant to meet Taylor this way, it’s so weird. When he reached out to tell me, I thought it was very funny and it was just my luck I sent it to all my girlfriends and I was like ‘why is my life like this?’ Since that happened, we’ve become friends. I feel like Taylor, bless her heart, got so much information from me.”
Walker continued: “We share so much with each other which is really nice. It’s great because we live close by and there aren’t a lot of young people here unless they’re here during spring break.”
McManus is also happy to have Walker in his life and now calls her his “go-to friend” for advice on “boy issues”.
