AEW has new tag champions! Max Caster and Anthony Bowens (known collectively as The Acclaimed) defeated Swerve In Our Glory (Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee) at the 2022 AEW Dynamite Grand Slam to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship for the first time in their careers .

It all came down to the prestigious Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City on Wednesday, September 21 in match two of the second AEW Dynamite Grand Slam. The Acclaimed did what they failed to do at All Out earlier this month when they overcame odds and defeated veteran opponents Lee and Strickland following a thrilling match that made vibrate the crowd.

The finish came when Bowens hit Swerve with a spinning neck breaker and Caster followed with a Mic Drop off the top rope for the 1-2-3.

Swerve In Our Glory became champions by defeating the team of Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs, and defending champions The Young Bucks in the triple threat main event of the July 13 edition of Dynamite.

In a recent conversation with Jack Murley on the BBC LGBT sports podcastBowens has revealed how close he was to joining WWE instead of AEW, and what ultimately inspired his decision to accept an offer from AEW boss Tony Khan.

I was interested in NXT/WWE“, Bowens said.”Then I haven’t heard of them. When my match with AEW aired, I heard about them the next day and they offered me a deal. Tony Khan caught wind of it and brought me to Jacksonville, which ended up being the same thing that happened to Max Caster. And Tony ended up pairing me with Max Caster, he wanted us to be The Acclaimed.”

Based on Bowens’ version of events, it appears that Tony Khan was so impressed with Caster and Bowens that he offered them AEW deals that were, presumably, sweeter than the deals that would have been offered to them by the WWE. Luckily, Bowens was a fan of AEW, and he didn’t hesitate to put his signature on the dotted line.

As The Acclaimed, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster are one of AEW’s most entertaining tag teams. They’re both solid in-ring workers who have improved tremendously since joining AEW, and their antics outside of the ring have endeared them to the company’s loyal fan base. They have more than earned their spot atop the AEW tag division.

THE PLEBISCITY HAS ARRIVED… for real this time.
