In the blink of an eye, the very first season of LIV Golf is about to conclude. Wrapping up its inaugural campaign at Trump National Doral in Florida, this week’s LIV Golf Team Championship 2022 in Miami will take a different form than previous LIV Golf events. With the individual titles over as Dustin Johnson finished atop the regular season standings, the focus now shifts to the teams.

The LIV Miami Golf Team Championship will take place over three days and will include everything from byes, singles matches, foursomes and stroke play as the teams compete for the $50 million purse.

Johnson’s 4 Aces GC command the No. 1 seed overall and earned a bye into Friday’s quarterfinals. The No. 2-4 seeded teams – Crushers GC, Fireballs GC and Stinger GC – will also have the day off while the No. 5-12 seeded teams will compete for a spot in Saturday’s semi-finals.

Four-time Major Champion Brooks Koepka will lead his Smash GC to fifth in the Tag Team Championship after winning at LIV Golf Jeddah. Koepka had his pick of the litter as the top seeds picked the teams they wanted to face the quarter-finals with, and the same goes for the semi-finals.

The captains of each team will face off in a singles match. The remaining three members of each team will be split between another singles match and a foursome match. Whichever team wins two points will move on to the next day.

There is some strategy to this as Majesticks GC, in particular, have already renamed their captain. Usually reserved for Lee Westwood, it is instead European Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter who will lead the Majesticks in the Tag Team Championship and be featured in a singles match. Other squad changes include recent DP World Tour winner Adrian Otaegui joining Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC and Hennie du Plessis joining South African side Stinger GC.

The final day of competition will revert to standard stroke play between the bottom four teams. Each player’s score will count towards their team, with the lowest aggregate team being crowned the first LIV Golf Team Champion.
